It was founded in Istanbul in 2007 by businessman Hüsnü M. Özyğin from the Ozen family, which is one of the most famous and richest families in Turkey and the world at large.

Özyeğin University Objectives:
The university aims to improve the quality of projects that serve the community by conducting research studies in the latest laboratories and laboratories, and publishing them in international journals.

The university was founded by the Hüsnü M. Özyeğin Foundation, and its establishment was approved by Foundation Law No. 5656, published in Official Gazette No. 26526 on May 18, 2007.

Özyeğin University accepted its first batch of students in the Department of Business Administration and started its education in September 2008.

According to Bloomberg Business Week's "Most Popular Universities" survey in 2014, Ozyegin ranked third among foundation universities, after Sabancı and Koç universities, respectively. Özyeğin University was also ranked fourth among all universities in the online survey conducted with 15,700 students from 89 universities between January and May 2014.

Özyeğin University is ranked sixth among the most pioneering and innovative universities in Turkey and has risen in the ranking compared to 2013.
Campus:
Altunizade Campus is the first campus of the university, opened in June 2008. The university launched the new main campus in Çekmeköy, Istanbul. Later the building in Altunizade was vacated and all departments moved to the Çekmeköy Campus in May 2013.
