Computer Engineering

What is the specialty of Computer Engineering major:

The computer engineering major studies hardware, software, computing principles, and electrical engineering. With skills in creative problem-solving as well as analysis and implementation, students are prepared to design robots and supercomputers, create new software systems, and more

A computer engineering degree covers a wide range of subjects, including operating systems, computer engineering, computer networks, robotics, artificial intelligence, and computer-aided design. It is a program designed to meet the rapidly growing demand for engineers with strong design skills. The three focus areas include real-time computing systems, communications and computing networks, and VLSI design/manufacturing. The skills students acquire through the program are: digital logic design, computer engineering, software engineering, compiler design, operating systems, and algorithms. In this major, students also develop a strong base in both computer science and electrical engineering; They learn about hardware and software aspects of computer science and gain a solid understanding of circuit and electronic circuit theory.

History of Computer Engineering:

Computer engineering began in 1939 when John Vincent Atanasoff and Clifford Berry began developing the world's first electronic digital computer through physics, mathematics, and electrical engineering. John Vincent Atanasoff was a physics and mathematics teacher at Iowa State University, and Clifford Berry was a former electrical engineering and physics graduate. Together they created the Atanasoff-Berry Computer, aka ABC which took 5 years to complete. While the original ABC was dismantled and discarded in the 1940s honoring its late inventors, a replica of the ABC was made in 1997 that took a team of researchers and engineers four years and $350,000 to build.

The modern personal computer emerged in the 1970s, after several breakthroughs in semiconductor technology. These include the first working transistor by William Shockley, John Bardeen and Walter Brattain at Bell Labs in 1947, the silicon surface passivation process (by thermal oxidation) by Muhammad Atallah at Bell Labs in 1957, and the monolithic integrated circuit chip by Robert Noyce at Fairchild semiconductor in 1959, [metal-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET, or MOS transistor) by Muhammad Atallah and Dawn Kahning at Bell Laboratories in 1959, and single-chip microprocessor (Intel 4004) by Federico Fagen, Marcian Hoff and Masatoshima Shima And Stanley Mazur at Intel in 1971.

Importance of studying Computer Engineering:

Turkish universities are considered among the most distinguished universities in teaching engineering disciplines around the world, and this is what most Turkish university students, especially private universities, testify to, due to the fact that most private Turkish universities have a distinguished faculty working to raise the level of the student and take his hand to keep pace with the latest technological developments Through continuous learning and development of student skills, in addition to training, Turkish universities have prepared equipped laboratories and workshops for engineering students through which they can implement engineering projects in a practical way. Turkish universities also include developed research centers to conduct and discuss research.
