Campus:

Geschwister-Scholl-Platz Campus:

The architectural hub of LMU Munich is the historic main building in the heart of Munich, which provides a historical backdrop seamlessly integrated into the surrounding street scene. Today, it is used for seminars and lectures by many different colleges. Probably the most famous lecture halls are the Great Aula where the Bavarian state parliament convened back in 1946, and the Audimax, which seats 800 people. The White Rose Memorial in the hallway, where Hans Sophie Scholl was arrested, recalls the inspiring example of resistance to the Nazi regime by members of the student group that bears their names.

The vicinity, located between the English Garden, Schillingstraße and Kunisplatz, also includes departments representing different faculties, including Linguistics, Literary Studies, Social Sciences and Physics. LMU is located in the bohemian district of Schwabing, with easy access to the famous English Garden, Opera House, Pinakothek and of course the many cafés, bars and pubs in the area.

The University Library is located in the south wing of the main building. Its collection includes 5 million volumes, which are stored in the Central Repository and 13 other repositories. With 10.5 million titles in its catalog, the Bavarian State Library has an impressive collection of rare books and other documents (including maps, photo archives, and sketchbooks), as well as one of the largest manuscript collections in the world. Easy access to many of Munich's famous museums, including the Old and New Pinakothek, the Brandhorst Museum, the Glyptothek and the Museum of Egyptian Art, as well as archives such as the Bavarian Central State Archives, make it an ideal location for research and study.

Grosshadern Campus / Martins Reid:

The Grosshadern/Martinsried Campus is a showcase of LMU's highly integrated and internationally recognized research in medicine, the biosciences, and the natural sciences. In the southwest of Munich, a complex of research institutions has developed, which is unique in Europe. Here, LMU researchers work closely with colleagues at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and Neurobiology and the Helmholtz Center.

The College of Medicine and University Hospital (with the Center for Biomedicine) and the Colleges of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Biology are located on the Grosshadern/Martins Reid campus. This intensive focus of knowledge in the life sciences is designed to facilitate translation of new findings in basic research into practical therapies and other applications.

The Grosshadern Medical Center forms part of the Munich University Hospital System, which includes the hospitals on the Sendlinger Tor campus in the city center. The Grosshadern campus thus represents not only cutting edge research, but also state-of-the-art comprehensive medical care. The modern operating rooms of the OPZ are equipped with lasers and modern imaging systems, and can be used by professionals in all areas of medicine. The facilities also include a multidisciplinary emergency unit, an outpatient surgery unit and a 70-bed intensive care unit. Another research institution (CSD) includes the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and the Research Institute for Stroke and Dementia (ISD).

Campus Sendlinger Tor:

The area between Sendlinger Tor and Goetheplatz in the city center has served as Munich's "medical district" for more than 200 years. It is home to a series of specialized hospitals, medical research institutes and other facilities of the College of Medicine

The campus is set to undergo a major change. LMU plans to build a new Earth Sciences building here, and the departments that house the School of Mathematics, Informatics, and Statistics will be grouped together on campus.

Campus Oberschleißheim:

There are now several institutes and clinics as well as the teaching and research farm of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Oberschleissheim, about 15 kilometers from the city centre. In the near future, almost the entire Faculty of Veterinary Sciences will be moved to a 15-hectare site in Oberschleißheim. With around 2,000 PhD students and candidates as well as 600 employees, it will be one of the largest research and education centers for veterinarians in Europe.
