Introduction by the University of Tanta:
Tanta University is the fifth oldest Egyptian university based in the city of Tanta in Gharbia Governorate. It became independent as a university in 1972, after it had been a branch of the University of Alexandria since its establishment in accordance with Republican Decree No. 1468 of 1962, a decision that stipulated the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine in Tanta. The university currently has 14 colleges and technical institutes

History of the establishment of Tanta University:
The year 1972 represented a milestone in the history of Tanta University with the issuance of Law No. 49 of 1972, which stipulated in its paragraph (a.e) the establishment of the University in the middle of the Delta in Tanta, then the name was later modified in 1973 to become the University of Tanta, thus becoming the fifth university in the Arab Republic of Egypt after the universities in Cairo Alexandria, Ain Shams and Assiut
- The faculties of the university were established successively until there were 18 faculties, including 12 in the city of Tanta and 6 in the university branch in Kafr El-Sheikh, where the Faculty of Commerce was established in 1973.
- Menoufia University separated and the Faculty of Arts was established in the same year.
- The Faculties of Pharmacy, Dentistry and Engineering were established in 1976, the Faculty of Education, Kafr El-Sheikh Branch, in 1977.
- The Faculty of Law was established in 1980.
- The Faculty of Specific Education was established in 1989, which was affiliated with the Ministry of Education, but joined Tanta University by Republican Decree No. 329 of 1998. The study began at the Faculty of Engineering in 1991, and the branch of the same faculty and the branch of the Faculty of Commerce were established in Kafr El-Sheikh in the same year.
- The Faculty of Agriculture and the Branch of the Faculty of Arts in Kafr El-Sheikh were established in 1993, and the Faculty of Physical Education was established in 1994, and classes began in the Faculty of Physical Education at the University Branch in Kafr El-Sheikh in 1997.
- On April 29, 2000, the Higher Institute of Nursing in Tanta was transferred to the Faculty of Nursing in Tanta, and it was added to the Nursing Faculties in Egypt.
- Kafr El-Sheikh branch separated from Tanta University in August 2006 under the name Kafr El-Sheikh University, where Tanta University played a pivotal and essential role in establishing this fledgling university. The university currently has 14 colleges and technical institutes, followed by 34 units of a special nature
