What is the specialty of Geomatics :
In the ISO/TC211 series of standards, geomatics is defined as "the system for the collection, distribution, storage, analysis, processing or presentation of geographic data or information." Under another definition, "consists of products, services and tools for participation in the collection, integration and management of geographical data." These include geomatics (geodetic and geomatics engineering, formerly known as survey engineering) and are associated with geogeography (also geogeography and geogeography technology).
Although many geomatics definitions, as noted above, appear to encompass the full discipline of geographic information, including geodesy, geographic information systems, remote sensing, satellite navigation and mapping, the term is almost exclusively survey and engineering perspectives towards geographic information. Geographic information has been proposed as an alternative generic term, but its use is common only in some parts of the world, especially Europe.
The importance of studying the specialty of geomatics:
Geomatics is very important in the modern world because it is a highly technical technique for surveying land. Surveying land can help you a lot, especially when it comes to protecting your property.
Geomatics courses:
Applicants must have proficiency in mathematics, physical sciences and computers, good spatial perception, and an eye for detail. Attention to geography is highly recommended.
Fields of work for the Geomatics major:
- GNSS: An increasing area of applications.
- Remote sensing.
- Hydrographic survey.
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Laser scanning applications.
- Mining surveys.
- Engineering surveys.
- Plane scan.
