The Department has been known as a science with its bases, foundations, and schools since the late nineteenth century and during the twentieth century, where a number of research scientists whose studies and experiences have had a clear impact on it have been involved. Charles Babbage presented his management ideas in his 1832 book "The Economics of Machinery and Manufacturers."
