Princess Sumaya University for Technology
The establishment and development of the university
The university was established in 1991 under the name of Princess Sumaya University College of Technology, and it granted a bachelor's degree in computer science. It is the academic arm of the Royal Scientific Society, which founded the university.
In 1992, His Majesty the late King Hussein bin Talal officially inaugurated the university. In 1995, the first cohort of 72 students graduated from the university.
In 1994, the foundation stone was laid for the King Abdullah II College of Electrical Engineering, which at that time offered a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering.
In 2002, the university's new name, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, was adopted, in addition to the introduction of a new major, computer engineering.
The university expanded in 2005 by introducing new majors: communications engineering, management information systems, and computer graphics, which is the first of its kind in Jordan.
In 2007, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research approved the university's regulations and instructions, and it became a model for private universities in Jordan.
In 2007, a master's program in computer science was offered, followed by a master's program in environmental technology and management in 2008, then a master's program in international business administration in 2008, in cooperation with Lancaster University / Britain.
In 2011, three new bachelor's degree programs were introduced: power and electric power engineering, software engineering, and accounting.
In 2011, two new master's degree programs were introduced: Electrical Engineering, Information Systems Security and Digital Crime.
In 2012, two new programs were introduced: a master's degree in entrepreneurship, and a bachelor's degree in e-marketing and social communication.
In November of 2013, His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein inaugurated the King Abdullah II College of Engineering.
In 2014, two new programs were introduced: Master of Enterprise Systems Engineering in cooperation with the German Jordanian University, and Bachelor of Network and Information Security Engineering.
In 2015, a PhD program in computer science was introduced.
In 2017, a master's program in data science was introduced to be among the rare majors that are being introduced in Jordanian universities.
In 2018, a Bachelor's degree program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence was introduced.
In 2019, a joint master's program in engineering management was developed in cooperation with the University of Arizona, Tucson, USA.
In 2019, the Master of Business Analysis program was introduced.
In 2020, a Bachelor of Cybersecurity program was introduced.
In 2021, a Bachelor's program in Internet of Things - Communications Engineering, a Master's program in Health Information Technology, and a Master's program in E-Marketing were introduced.
The establishment of the International Relations Office at Princess Sumaya University came in response to its new strategy, which places international relations at the top of its priorities. One of the pillars of this strategy is that international relations are included in all vital aspects of the university, which aims to develop an international culture and strong institutional capabilities through the transfer of knowledge and good practices. Among the objectives of this strategy is also to provide appropriate knowledge, tools and methodologies to improve performance and to create an international network of international relations. This will enable the university to exchange experiences and innovations, and create strong partnerships through which it will obtain diverse knowledge and resources.
The main purpose of this office is to expand and strengthen the university's relations with world-leading universities, to develop exchange programs and joint master's programs in specific strategic areas, and to develop research partnerships with higher education institutions. The office currently supervises and manages agreements and memorandums of understanding, and constantly seeks to establish partnerships and international relations. The office carries out many activities that include organizing conferences, workshops and seminars at a high level of efficiency.
The office provides a wide range of services that support international aspects of the university's strategy. The university has recently joined one of the Tempus projects, entitled "Towards the Internationalization of a Higher Education Network for Partnership between the Mediterranean Basin Countries and Europe", which aims to develop institutional capacities in the field of internationalization of Mediterranean basin institutions. And the European partner countries in the program, through the transfer of practical knowledge, administrative capabilities, and good practices to the offices of international relations and the administrative clerk. Among the objectives of the office are the following:
Developing a culture of internationalization through regional work
Providing the appropriate knowledge, tools and methodologies to improve the internationalization procedures of the institutions of the Mediterranean basin countries and the European partner countries in the program.
Create a recognized regional network for internationalization in order to transfer good practices.
Managing projects outside the university and following up on agreements.
Supervision and guidance of researchers, lecturers and international students who plan to conduct studies or research at Princess Sumaya University.
Providing advice to Princess Sumaya University students who wish to study or enroll in training programs abroad.
The cooperation between the International Council for Cultural Exchange (CIEE) and Princess Sumaya University for Technology focuses on attracting foreign students from several countries, starting from the beginning of the second semester of the academic year 2013/2014, in disciplines associated with all the university’s faculties to study subjects in the specialization or subjects in the humanities and social sciences. Or Arabic language materials for non-native speakers as a private study.
