What is the specialty of the English language teaching major:
The English Language Teaching program prepares potential teachers for the challenges of teaching students from a wide range of cultural backgrounds in such diverse educational environments as traditional high and middle schools, career and technical centers, alternative and magnet schools and technology preparation programs.

Current English language education studies anticipate increased opportunities for English language teachers at all levels, to replace retired teachers and to provide lower student-teacher ratios in the classroom.
High school graduates, whether they plan to attend college or not, need instruction in language and writing that will prepare them for the demands of their future careers. English Language Teaching degree program teachers have the essential knowledge and skills to provide effective English language instruction to students in Michigan and across the country
History of the English Language Teaching major:
Today, English is the most studied foreign language in the world. Five hundred years ago, Latin was the most widely studied language because it was the language of business, commerce, and education in the Western world. However, in the 16th century, French, Italian and English gained importance as a result of political change in Europe, and Latin gradually became the language of spoken and written communication.
Latin has become a dead language. He began reading books as a classic language. Children began attending a "grammar school" in the 16th and 18th centuries to learn Latin grammar. To learn Latin became "mental gymnastics". In the eighteenth century, when modern languages began to enter the curricula of European countries, these languages were taught in the same ways as Latin. Grammar has been preserved. Written practices have been done. The passages were translated from the second language into the first language and vice versa
By the 19th century, this method was considered a standard method of language teaching. The textbooks are divided into chapters. Each chapter has a specific grammar rule and Kant practices with lots of written exercises
The importance of studying English language teaching specialization:
What are the benefits of teaching and learning through an additional language? Teaching and learning through additional language encourages intercultural understanding, improves students' cognitive ability and prepares them for life outside of schools Listening, speaking, reading and writing - these are the four big skills of language learning. In the world of linguistics, all four of these skills are of equal value. A student can be said to have good communication and effective interpersonal skills only when these four abilities blend together seamlessly.
But unfortunately in Indian classroom setting the focus is more on writing. Reading as a language skill is a very important but also very neglected one. Students rarely focus on reading. If the students can read and understand the text, half the work is done.
Most students do not speak the language described for school (for the majority of the Hindi script, English) because they are afraid. They are afraid of making mistakes, afraid of being ridiculed, afraid of retribution. But one must not forget that if the teacher does not speak, the students will not be able to learn. Likewise, if students do not listen and speak, they will miss out on learning.
Listening, though, is a difficult language skill to master, especially foreign languages like English or French. This is why ASL (Assessment of Speaking and Listening) has achieved fundamental importance in language teaching and learning. Our language lab provides ample opportunities for students to hone their language skills.
